Kolleen Ledgerwood has enjoyed nice success at Los Alamitos over the years. The owner, whose horses are conditioned by talented trainer Roberto Dominguez, has started 280 horses at the Orange County oval since 2004, and during that span she’s seen them reach the winner’s circle 47 times. Those figures give her a solid win ratio of 16.8% with total earnings of $664,722. Ledgerwood’s horses have also finished in the top three over 45% of the time while reaching the top five in nearly 75% of those starts.
Her most recent victory came on Saturday night with the Stel Corona gelding Stel Just Me, who scored a ¾ length win against allowance foes in the evening’s fourth race. Starting from along the rail, Stel Just Me led every step of the way en route to earning $5,500 for his victory. Dominguez saddled the 2-year-old, who was picking up his second career victory in five starts. It was Jay Conklin’s first time aboard the Vaughn and Jill Cook-bred sprinter. Conklin has been great for Dominguez and Ledgerwood, as the veteran rider has piloted seven winners from only 19 starts for the owner/trainer. No other rider has won more races for Ledgerwood at Los Alamitos since 2004. By the way, Stel Just Me’s mother is Just Wanna Be Me, the winner of the 2005 Dashing Folly Handicap at Los Alamitos.
Ledgerwood would now love nothing more than to see Stel Just Me grow into her next stakes contender at Los Alamitos. She’s had many of those over the years headed by Materialist, the winner of the Vandy’s Flash Handicap, Sgt Pepper Feature Handicap and First Down Dash Handicap. She’s also owned Southern California Derby finalist This Snow Is Amazing; Kindergarten Futurity finalists Coyote Code and Tres Racer (shown above); PCQHRA Breeders Futurity finalists Easily Amazed and Filthy Fast; multiple stakes finalist Revivalist; Los Alamitos Winter Derby finalist Buy Buy; and Governor’s Cup Futurity finalist This Partys Fire. Filthy Fast deserves an added mention after also qualifying to the Los Alamitos Super Derby, Golden State Derby and Los Alamitos Winter Derby during a fine sophomore campaign.
