Mauro Eli Zaborowsky’s Katrina SA earned a Pink Ribbon for her tremendous winning effort on Betting on a Cure for Breast Cancer Night Saturday at Los Alamitos.
The Pink Ribbon was the top award on this night and the 3-year-old Carters Cartel filly deserved the prize. Sent off at odds of 26-1, Katrina SA was unshakable in the end of the 330-yard dash, as she took the lead at the halfway mark and pulled away from her rivals in the final 50 yards. Bred by the late Gianni Franco Samaja, Katrina SA went on to score a ¾ length win in a time of :16.879 to earn her third win in 12 career starts.
Ridden by Oscar Peinado for trainer Paul Jones, Katrina SA came into the Pink Ribbon looking for a turn around after finishing out of the money in each of her last three starts. She found it on Betting On A Cure Night, as she was able to deliver the most impressive effort of her career. Katrina SA earned $7,700 for the effort to take her lifetime earnings to $25,295. Her connections also won a hot pink blanket with a pink ribbon attached courtesy of Kerry Eason Horse Blankets.
Balgo Racing Team and Marlyn Gonzalez’s multiple stakes finalist Nefertity earned $3,150 for finishing second in the Pink Ribbon. Santiago Mendez piloted her for trainer Guillermo Morales. Sent off at 16-1 odds in this race, Nefertity ran in the Governor’s Cup Derby earlier this year and in the Governor’s Cup Futurity last year. La Presita LLC’s First Corona Hot ran third, while 3-5 favorite Hannahs Double Love finished fourth and stumbling at the start. Shes A Cheer Leader, California Gurl, Pretty Lethal, and Ima Foose completed the field.
