Julian Rock, an 8-year-old from Anaheim, won the $700 top prize during Saturday’s annual Los Alamitos Halloween Carnival. Rock was dressed as The Paper Princess, an original costume made her mother and aunt, which won the judges over because of the uniqueness of the home-made outfit and the incredibly detailed face makeup. Her face makeup depicted images of Los Alamitos horse racing related newspaper clippings, stories and photographs - all beautifully drawn by Rock’s aunt. After the contest, the family added that they would donate a portion of the winnings to a youth charity.
Around 500 people participated in the costume contest, which featured seven different aged divisions. Each divisional winner advanced to the grand final. Rock was the winner in the division for 7-8-year-olds. Other winners included Naomi Trias in the 15 and up division; Cristina Cruz in the 11-14 division; Shawnee Smith in the 9-10 division; Riley Rodriguez in the 5-6 division; Emma Sapan in the 3-4 division; and Sebastian Rizo in the 2 and under division. Proceeds benefited the Cypress Boys & Girls Club, the Los Alamitos Youth Center, and the Los Alamitos RTCA.
