     Los Alamitos Race Course announced on Friday that three of the 10 participants in Sunday’s $2,078,775, Grade 1 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity tested positive for the B2-agonist Clenbuterol, and one tested positive for the B2-agonist Albuterol. 

The three Los Alamitos Two Million finalists positive for Clenbuterol are co-fastest qualifier Apollitical Blood, Corona The Cat, and Bogart. Corona The Cat also tested positive for Albuterol.  Juan Aleman trains Apollitical Blood and Bogart, while Eloy Navarro trains Corona The Cat. Apollitical Blood will enter as co-fastest qualifier to the Los Alamitos Two Million after winning his November 23 trial in a time of :19.55. Corona The Cat finished second to Apollitical Blood in that trial, but his time of :19.62 gave him the fourth fastest qualifying time. Bogart finished second to third fastest qualifier He Looks Hot with a time of :19.74.

Los Alamitos Race Course ordered for hair and blood samples taken from the 10  Los Alamitos Two Million finalists on Monday, November 24. The samples were delivered to the University of California, Davis, where test for Clenbuterol (via hair sample) and Albuterol (via blood sample) were conducted.

The Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity is the richest race of the year-long meet and will feature S-Quarter K LLC’s Heza Dasha Fire looking to become the first winner of the track’s $1,000,000 Los Alamitos Cash Bonanza. The Bonanza is the track’s version of the Triple Crown and awards a $1,000,000 cash bonus to the connections of a horse that can sweep the Ed Burke Million Futurity, Golden State Million Futurity, and Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity. Heza Dasha Fire won the Ed Burke Million on June 22 and Golden State Million Futurity on November 2.

On Friday, the American Quarter Horse Association Racing Council announced in a press release that beginning January 15, 2015, any horse that is part of a medication ruling with a Clenbuterol overage based upon current, allowed threshold levels of the reporting jurisdiction, the horse, owner and trainer will be penalized immediately under the AQHA Multiple Medication Violation System (MMVS). The AQHA MMVS sets forth penalties for trainers, owners and horses subject of positive drug tests, and, in particular, is designed to assess penalties against trainers, owners and horses subject of multiple positive drug tests. This system is for AQHA’s use only is not intended to be a substitute for the current penalty system used by racing jurisdictions. AQHA also announced that beginning January 1, 2016, Clenbuterol, in any form, is banned from use in any type of American Quarter Horse race.
