Two Feathers Series, LLC’s Stevie B First Cash has performed in 2016 like a horse destined to be a major player in the aged division in 2017.
Just in his last three starts, the son of First Down Dash has won a race named in honor of his sire, the $100,000 First Down Dash Stakes at Ruidoso Downs, finished third against older horses in the Grade 1 Robert L. Boniface Los Alamitos Invitational Championship, and on Saturday night he dominated the running of the $25,000 Town Policy Handicap at 400 yards at Los Alamitos. He has finished third or better in nine straight starts in 2016.
Ridden by Jesus Rios Ayala for trainer Bret Vickery, Stevie B First Cash broke right with the leaders from post three before taking control early and never looking back in the Town Policy. The 4-5 favorite crossed the wire a half-length ahead of runner-up We Like Corona while covering the distance in :19.791. Stevie B First Cash earned $13,750 to take his career earnings to $210,931. Over $207,000 of that amount has come this year. He’s also won five of 14 career starts.
Bred by the Lepic-Morgan Partnership, Stevie B First Cash is an Oklahoma bred colt out of the champion mare and 12-time stakes winner Spit Curl Diva. During her brilliant career, Spit Curl Diva won 19 of 37 starts and earned $829,353.
Howard Nichols’ multiple Grade 1 finalist We Like Corona earned $5,625 for running second. The field was completed by Thermonuclear Energy, Dynasty Energy, Kotur, Mi Viejo and Snitchin. Luv On The Run was scratched.
