EG High Desert Farms’ Jess Ravin became the 67th Quarter Horse in the history of Los Alamitos Race Course with at least six stakes after cruising to a half-length victory in the Grade 3 $35,000 Miss Princess Handicap for fillies and mare on Saturday night.

Jess Ravin dominated the Miss Princess at 350 yards after leaving the gate from post number eight. With jockey Jesus Rios Ayala up for trainer Yanet Rodriguez, Jess Ravin had a comfortable lead the entire way and crossed the wire well in hand for her ninth win in 15 career starts. Meanwhile, all six of her stakes wins have come since May 13, 2016. On that day, Jess Ravin won the La Pacifica Handicap by 1 ½ lengths and since then she’s won the Vandy’s Flash Handicap on June 26, Las Damas Handicap on November 19, Flare For Toby Handicap on February 10, Corona Kool Handicap on March 19 and now the Miss Princess. She earned $19,250 for this victory to take her career earnings to $147,941.

“I can’t ask more from her,” Rodriguez said. “I’m so excited for that mare. I’ve always had high hopes for her. This might be her last year. She will probably get turned out next year to be a broodmare, but you know we have to take it day by day and we’ll see. We have a couple of races lined up for her. We’ll see how she pulls up. We do have some races picked up because this might be her last year on the track. We want to take advantage of still having her around. I don’t try to run her often. We try to have some gaps in between her starts so that we can keep her fresh. She’s been here on the grounds since last year so we want to keep her a fresh horse.”

Jess Ravin covered the 350 yards in :17.537. Jess Ravin’s connections will now set their sights on a seventh stakes win for the 4-year-old mare. There have been only 47 Quarter Horses to have reach the seven stakes win milestone in Los Alamitos history. Charger Bar and Kaweah Bar are the all-time leaders here with 18 stakes wins each.

Spackman Racing’s Time For Jess, winner of the Adequan California Derby Challenge last year and a Grade 1 stakes placed runner, finished second in the Miss Princess. Ridden by Carlos Huerta for trainer Lin Melton, Time For Jess was making her first start since a fifth place finish in the Grade 1 Charger Bar Handicap. Time For Jess was second in the Grade 2 Southern California Derby and third in the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Super Derby last year.  The mare by Apollitical Jess earned $7,875 for running second. Carolyn and Ralph Fales’ All Right Now, the runner-up to Jess Ravin in the Flare For Toby, earned $4,375 for running third. Zendaya, Apollitical Dasher, Bring Me Home, Rutila, Micheles Jess and Unfinished Biz completed the field.
