             The season of California regional Challenge races at Los Alamitos Race Course kicked off on Saturday night with a pair of trials to the John Deere California Juvenile Challenge. Los Alamitos will host this year’s Bank of America Racing Challenge on Saturday, November 17.

            Led by fastest qualifier Steveieb Flashofcash (photo), 10 juveniles are one step closer to competing on this prestigious night of racing after qualifying to the John Deere California Juvenile final. The California regional final will be held on Sunday, August 19 with the first two-finishers advancing to the estimated $125,000, Grade 2 John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship final.

         Ridden by Jose Nicasio for trainer Monty Arrossa, Stevieb Flashofcash is now a perfect three for three after outdueling Cole Man 47 by a neck to win the first of two trials on Saturday. Owned by Five Livestock Company, the gelding by First Moonflash covered the 350 yards in :17.755. Stevieb Flashofcash was making his first start since winning his trial to the Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity on May 6.

        Racing for Marin Jones and Steve McIntyre, Cole Man 47 lugged in early but still posted the second fastest qualifying time of :17.792 seconds. The gelding by Stel Corona finished seventh in the Grade 2 Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity and most recently ran second in a trial to the Governor’s Cup Futurity to eventual runner-up in the final Favorite Wise Lady. Jesus Rios Ayala piloted Cole Man 47 for trainer Paul Jones. McIntyre bred Cole Man 47. Cole Man 47 will be joined by stablemate Quick To Royalty in the John Deere final following her fourth place finish in the other trial of the night. McIntyre bred both Cole Man 47 and Quick To Royalty.  

      Owned and bred by Gary and Jeralyn Messenger, Fames Prize Stone won the second trial in the third fastest qualifying time of :17.981. Ridden by Eduardo Nicasio, Fames Prize Stone now has two wins in three starts at Los Alamitos. The Fast Prize Stone filly also won her career debut at 27-1 odds on April 15. In between Orange County wins, Fames Prize Stone’s accomplishments included a third place finish in the $92,602 Bitterroot Futurity and a third in the John Deere Sandy Downs Juvenile Challenge.
