Career Profile: Trainer Paul Jones secured his 11th straight local training title in 2008 while also setting the national record with nearly $7 million in earnings during a single year. Even in the purpled patched world of Thoroughbred racing, Jones would have been among the statistical leaders.

His 230 wins in 2009 would have rated him 4th in the national standings only behind Steve Asmussen, Todd Pletcher and Jerry Hollendorfer. His earnings of nearly $7 million would have placed him in 13th place, just a little behind the silver-haired Bob Baffert.

Jones' statistical dominance in  Quarter Horse racing has been going on for quite sometime. In fact before Jones came along, the previous record for earnings was held by Blane Schvaneveldt with $3.6 million. Not at almost $7 million, Jones has just about doubled the all-time record. Why would Jones ever leave Quarter Horse racing? The way he sees, he might be the big fish in a smaller pond, but he's more like a whale thanks to the numbers that he's raking up.

Trainer Paul Jones is now a seven-time AQHA Champion trainer. In 2008, Jones won the Ed Burke Million Futurity with Foose, giving him one of the few races that he had yet to win in the sport. Jones will be looking to win the Ed Burke Million two years in a row when he saddles Three Times The Toll o Saturday, June 20.

Paul is a second-generation trainer. His father, Paul Sr., was a solid trainer at Los Alamitos for many years, winning 106 Quarter Horse races in the process. 2002 was an emotional year for Paul. The high point was the birth of my daughter and first child, Mia. The low point was the passing of my father. "Losing my dad was difficult," Jones said. " He didn t get a chance to see my first Champion of Champions win or the baby, but I knew that he was  watching us from above."
