134 ARE NOMINATED FOR CALIFORNIA BREEDERS CHAMPIONS NIGHT AT LOS ALAMITOS
One of the most prestigious Quarter Horse racing nights of the year is on tap as California Breeders Champions Night will offer a full evening of stakes races on Saturday, July 27. The racing action will be headed by the running of the $380,000 Governorís Cup Futurity featuring fastest qualifier Chalalita and talented trial winners Moonist and Nefertity, plus the $181,500 Governorís Cup Derby led by La Primera Del Ano Derby winner Revv Me Up and stablemates Scoop Of Sunshine (left), who posted the fastest qualifying time, and I Go Out Walking.
The Spencer L. Childers California Breeders Championship Handicap is the main event for older horses and will feature a purse of $100,000. Among the horses nominated to the Spencer Childers are recent Grade 1 Vessels Maturity winner Last To Fire, multiple Grade 1 derby winner Check My Thoughts, 2012 Los Alamitos Invitational Championship winner Chivalry SR and 2012 El Primero Del Ano Derby winner New Look.
The 14th running of California Breeders Champions Night will once again serve as a showcase event for the finest California-bred runners in training. Featuring combined purses of over $925,000, the event is the product of joint cooperation between the Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association and track management at Los Alamitos Race Course. There were 134 nominees to the various races that make up California Breeders Champions Night. In some cases, a horse was nominated to more than one race.
While the fields to the Governorís Cup Futurity and Governorís Cup Derby were set during trial races on July 12 and 13, horses were nominated to the other 12 races that are part of Champions Night. In addition to Last To Fire, Check My Thoughts, Chivalry SR and New Look, nine other runners were nominated to the Spencer Childers Championship Handicap at 400 yards, including the multiple stakes winning mare Check N Fetch, the 2012 derby placed runner Chicks Boudro, 2011 Los Alamitos Super Derby finalist Ambush Alley, 2011 Governorís Cup Futurity finalist FDD Moon and stakes winner Creston Goer. The others nominated are De Moss, El Baia, JB Ketchum and Once Over.
Twenty five runners were nominated to the $25,000 Sprint Stakes including 11 that were also nominated to the Spencer Childers. Check My Thoughts, Check N Fetch, New Look and Chivalry SR are among those nominated to both races. Defending Sprint Stakes winner Ronsepi, 2012 Spencer Childers winner Twelve Stepper, multiple stakes winner Forrest Fire and 2013 Vessels Maturity finalist Hit It Big were among the other nominees to the this race.
The aforementioned Check N Fetch, winner of the Miss Princess and Independence Day Handicap, headlines the list of 10 nominees to the $50,000 Matron Stakes for 3 year olds and upward fillies and mares. Classic Sassy Check, winner of last yearís Ivan Ashment Handicap, 2012 Las Damas Handicap runner-up Touch Of Paso and the multiple stakes placed runner Bolt Lightly has also been nominated to the Matron Stakes. El Primero Del Ano Derby finalist Votemout is one of 12 sophomores that have been nominated to run in the Jens L. List Memorial Stakes for 3-year-olds, while top 2-year-olds like Kindergarten Futurity finalists Last Chancer and Shaded Secrets were nominated to run in the $25,000 Freshman Fillies Stakes. Nine were also nominated to run in the $25,000 Freshman Stakes for 2-year-olds. The racing program will also feature the Debutante Stakes for 3-year-old fillies and the California Breeders 550 Sophomore Stakes. The program will include feature four claiming stakes races.

Champions Night will also feature a Los Alamitos Cap giveaway. Four stylish colors will be available for on-track fans with a paid nighttime admission. Giveaway will be held while supplies last.

While the fields to the Governorís Cup Futurity and Governorís Cup Derby were set during trial races on the weekend of July 13 and 14, horses were nominated to nine of the 12 races that are part of Champions Night. Eighteen horses have been nominated to the Spencer Childers Championship Handicap at 400 yards, including Grade 1 Southern California Derby, Grade 1 Los Alamitos Winter Championship and Grade 1 Vessels Maturity winner El Aguila Real, Governorís Cup Futurity and Derby winner Hot Hitter and the veteran 2007 AQHA Champion 3-Year-Old Gelding Little Bit Of Baja. Katella Handicap winner Forrest Fire and Ivan Ashment Handicap winner Classic Sassy Check plus stakes winners Buying Snow, Creston Goer, Flaming Out, Fire Is On have also been nominated. The others nominated are BF Farm Boy, a multiple Grade 1 finalist, Cash Him Out, De Moss, Frosty Younger, Precisionist RM, Sheza Shy Shahayla, Shining First Dash, Twelve Stepper and Walkin Bac.
