Purses now $10,000 for Thoroughbred $5,000 Claimers at Los Alamitos

         Effective immediately, $5,000 Thoroughbred claimers at Los Alamitos will now race for a handsome $10,000 purse in 4 1/2 furlong races regardless of conditions or field size. If a race features 10, nine or even six horses, it will still feature a $10,000 purse.

          "If a race is for non-winners of two or an open event, these $5,000 Thoroughbred claimers will still race for $10,000 at Los Alamitos," said Ron Church, the racing secretary at Los Alamitos. "Thoroughbreds are an important and valuable part of our racing program and we believe that this new and exciting purse structure will be well received by horsemen everywhere. We invite them with open arms to race their $5,000 claimers here for a very good purse."   

            A horse winning a 10-horse Thoroughbred race for $5,000 claimers will earn a first place check of $5,085. Every official starter in a Thoroughbred race will still earn a minimum of $150.

           The $10,000 purse does not apply to maiden horses. Los Alamitos is also hosting a $30,000 Thoroughbred Claiming Stakes Championship race on December 19. For info, please call 714-820-2788.
