One could say that Knocking On The Door had been knocking on the door of a big performance during most of her racing career. The Ed Allred and Tom Seibly-bred filly had finished second in three of her eight career stars, including a runner-up effort in her trial to the Governor’s Cup Futurity on July 11.

In her ninth career start, Knocking On The Door delivered that big performance, as the Scott Willoughby-trained filly led from wire to wire to win the $35,000 Autumn Handicap by a head over her fast closing  stablemate, the Allred-owned Nymph.  Ridden by Eulices Gomez from the outside post number six, Knocking On The Door covered the 350 yards in :17.847. Sent off at 7-1 odds in this race, Knocking On The Door improved her career record to two wins from nine starts with a total of six in the money finishes.

“(Knocking On The Door) broke like a rocket and I couldn’t have asked for a straighter race than the one she gave us,” said Willoughby, who saddled both Knocking On The Door and the lightly raced Nymph.  “Nymph got bumped, but she was flying late. She’s had a bad luck away from the gate in some of her race. She had a troubled trip in her last race (a futurity trial to the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity). She ended up just barely missing the final. They’re both solid fillies and I think they’re going to be very good racehorses down the road.”

Knocking On The Door earned $19,250 for the win, while Nymph, which was also sired by Foose, took home $7,875 for running second. From three career starts, Nymph has won, placed, and showed in those outings. As for Knocking On The Door, the sorrel filly is out of Allred and Seibly’s 2009 Golden State Million Futurity winner The Partys On Fire.

Governor’s Cup Futurity finalist Miss Sadie Thompson ran third and was followed across the wire by One Sweet Boggie, Thru The Night, and Miss Special Regard. Kindergarten Futurity finalist Big Time Wild was a late scratch.
