       Dr. Steve Burns’ Little Talks bumped slightly at the start of the $25,000 Denim N Diamonds Handicap, but then flew to take the lead on the way an easy daylight victory in the 350-yard feature on Saturday at Los Alamitos.


Ridden by Cesar De Alba for trainer Mike Casselman, Little Talks picked up her third stakes victory at Los Alamitos after posting a 1 ¼ length victory over the sizzling fast Bemused in the Denim N Diamonds. Sent off as the 2-5 favorite, the filly by Favorite Cartel covered the 350 yards in :17.60 while recording her eight career win in 15 starts. This was also her third stakes win – one for each year that she has raced. Little Talks won the Grade 1 Golden State Million Futurity in a great duel with the talented colt Docs Best Card and then won the PCQHRA Breeders Derby last year. In making only her second start as a 4-year-old mare, Little Talks earned the $11,000 first place share of the purse for winning the Denim N Diamonds. She’s now made $563,897 in her racing career.


Little Talks came into this race after running a strong third in the Grade 1 Charger Bar Handicap on January 8. She also ran in the Adequan California Derby Challenge and Z. Wayne Griffin Directors Trials last year and as a 2-year-old she made the field to the Restricted Grade 2 Governor’s Cup Futurity in addition to her Golden State Million win.

Ed Allred’s Bemused, which has proven to be unbeatable when racing at 300 yards, finished a solid second in the Denim N Diamonds. Ridden by Eulices Gomez for trainer James Glenn, Jr., Bemused earned $4,500 for running second.


Dr. Burns’ One Sweet Winner finished third and was followed across the wire by Lady Perry On Fire and Tough Broad. Multiple stakes winner Nymph lost her jockey Carlos Huerta at the start of the race when the rider bumped into the assistant starter. Nymph was declared a non-starter as a result of the interference. Live racing resumes on Sunday evening at 5:35 p.m. with the running of the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Winter Championship and the Los Alamitos Maiden Stakes.
