Esperanza Sanchez, a 9-year-old from Anaheim, won the $700 top prize during Saturday’s annual Los Alamitos Halloween Carnival. Sanchez put on a show dressed as a Dancing Crab, quickly shifting from one side to the next, and then expertly using her pincers to the delight of the crowd. Her crafty crustacean moves won the judges over in the 9-11-year-old division and then she clawed the top prize with the help of her crabtivating moves.

Around 300 people participated in the costume contest, which featured seven different aged divisions. Each divisional winner advanced to the grand finale. In addition to Sanchez’s win in the 9-11-year-old division, other winners included: Nicolas Aguirre from Downey as a newborn chick in the 2 and under division; Sebastian Rizzo of Pico Rivera as a Medieval Knight in the 3-4 division; Makaila Marcos of Anaheim as a Genie in the 5-6 division; Danny Velazquez of Whittier as a Yellow Horned Dragon in the 7-8 division; Gabriella Hernandez of Pico Rivera as Poison Ivy in the 12-14 year old division; and Walter Tuschoff of Anaheim as an Angels Baseball Player Bobblehead in the 15 and up division. The event proceeds in the amount of $3,200 benefited the Cypress Boys & Girls Club.
