      Lucky Seven Ranch’s homebred Lotta Blues Man picked up his first stakes victory since the 2016 Golden State Million Futurity with a confident effort in the $25,000 Town Policy Handicap on Sunday at Los Alamitos.


Ridden by Cesar De Alba for trainer Mike Casselman, Lotta Blues Man broke alertly from post number seven and then separated himself from his rivals with each stride en route to an easy 1-½ length victory. The Favorite Cartel gelding covered the 400 yards in :19.746, his fifth victory at this distance since October 16, 2016. His other wins at 400 yards have come in a trial to this year’s Golden State Derby and in last year’s Golden State Million Futurity trial, Golden State Million final, and in a trial to the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity. Lotta Blues Man was second to Worth Doing in last year’s Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity.


Lotta Blues Man was picking up his first stakes win of the season in the Town Policy. He was second in the Vandy’s Flash Handicap to Kissed By An Eagle and was part of a strong field in the Grade 2 Golden State Derby earlier this year. Lotta Blues Man earned $13,750 for the win to take his career earnings over the $900,000 mark. A winner in seven of 13 lifetime starts, Lotta Blues Man has now earned $906,685. He’s eligible to race in the trials to the Southern California Derby on Friday, December 1.


J. Francisco Diaz’s homebred One Sweet Runner, an allowance winner coming into the Town Policy, earned $5,625 for running second in this event. Jesus Rios Ayala rode the filly by One Sweet Jess for trainer Lindolfo Diaz. One Sweet Runner was third in the Governor’s Cup Derby earlier this season and fourth in the Blue Grass Bounce Handicap. She’s now made $60,068 from six wins in 12 starts. Abigail Kawananakoa’s Staggering Stride earned $3,125 for finishing third. Bred by John Andreini, the Mr Jess Perry filly won the La Pacifica Handicap earlier this season and was fourth in the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Winter Derby on February 11.


Trippys Royal Jess, G S Wintermeyer, AJS Anna Smoke, Apollitical Spirit, and Youre Gonna Mish Me completed the field. Well Good was scratched.
