S and S Horses’ Royaltys Authority posted his third victory in a row while defeating a strong field of 10 older horses in the Grade 3, $30,000 Kaweah Bar Handicap at 350 yards on Saturday at Los Alamitos Race Course.

Ridden by Cesar De Alba for trainer Roman Figueroa, Royaltys Authority broke nicely from post nine, took the lead early on, and held off second place finisher Flash N Bling and third place finisher Zoomin For Spuds to score the first stakes victory of his 22-race career. The gray gelding covered the distance in :17.438, 3.6/100ths of a seconds off of the meet’s fastest time at this distance of :17.402 posted by Designs By Dynasty on March 3. That means that Royaltys Authority will have to settle for only owning the meet’s fastest 330-yard clocking of :16.451, which he posted in his previous start on April 15. A winner of just one race from his first 16 career starts, the son of Royaltys Choice has won four of his last six outings.

“He came to my barn at the end of (2017) campaign,” Figueroa said. “I ran him once and finished (eighth), but he’s picked up from there and won two in row and now this one. I won this race (three) times as a jockey and now once as a trainer.”

Figueroa piloted Dashing Val to victory in the Kaweah Bar in 1990 and then followed it up with wins in this race aboard Sweeten The Pot in 1992 and A Mere First in 1998. “Fig” is the only person to win the Kaweah Bar as both trainer and jockey.

Meanwhile, Royaltys Authority has become a top name in the older division at Los Alamitos. His win at 330 yards came against $50,000 claimers that included the graded stakes placed runner My Favorite Check. His win in the Kaweah Bar came over a field that included AQHA champion Zoomin For Spuds and graded stakes winners Rite Regal, Mr Apollitical Dash, One Proud Eagle, and Unclaimed Dividend, plus Grade 1 stakes runner-ups Flash N Bling and The Charm Of Corona.

“(In his 330-yard win) the horses that were to his inside had some trouble, they kind of caused their own problems, and that left the gate open for us,” Figueroa added. “He just did it on his own from there. He ran away from them. We’ll probably go to the California Breeders Champions Night next, hopefully in the Spencer Childers Championship Handicap.”

Bred by A Regal Choice Inc., Royaltys Authority earned $16,500 for the win to take his career earnings to $94,658. He’s won five of 22 starts while finishing in the money in nine other starts.

Reliance Ranches LLC’s Flash N Bling earned $6,750 for running second for trainer Mike Robbins. The First Down Dash gelding has earned $149,034 in his career. Jim Walker’s 2016 Champion of Champions winner Zoomin For Spuds, the winner of the Moonist Handicap in his last start, earned $3,750 for his third place finish. His bankroll now stands at $577,031. The Charm of Corona, One Proud Eagle, Rite Regal, Renewed, Mr Apollitical Dash, Captain On Takeoff, and Unclaimed Dividend completed the field.
