One of Kenny Nettles' good friends was John Wiseman, a longtime department manager at Los Alamitos Race Course. He had the following memories to share about Kenny, who passed away earlier this week following a battle with cancer at the age of 80:

"I met (Kenny) back in the 1980s and we were close friends ever since. He represented the small trainer in racing proudly. He got up every morning, went to the track and took care of his horses. You'd see him at the shed rows in the mornings and then at Schwanie's after finishing his job. He never let his illness take away from his love of racing.  He continued to come to the track until the last few days, and only because he was bed ridden.

"He loved his job. He was from Kentucky and would go back to the Kentucky Derby every year to visit family and friends. He knew racing bloodlines well. He never had a big horse, but he was as dedicated as they came.  He always raced his horses where they belonged. He had a lot of friends. He was a down to earth person. I'm going to miss him because I enjoyed talking to him and he always made time for me. We made time for each other."
