LOS ALAMITOS TO RACE SATURDAYS, SUNDAYS STARTING JULY 17
Live Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred racing will be conducted on a Saturday and Sunday basis at Los Alamitos Race Course starting on Saturday, July 17. The two-night racing week should provide for stronger racing cards and an increase in the average field size per race for the track’s signature wagers, the early and late Pick Fours, plus its $2 traditional Pick Six, which has seen a growth in popularity over the past year. Los Alamitos will continue to offer its $10,000 Pick Six promotion on eligible Sundays.
Year-round racing will continue at the Orange County oval as scheduled for the 2021 racing season through Sunday, December 19.
After Labor Day, Los Alamitos enters the strongest part of its stakes calendar. The schedule during this portion of the meet features the track’s marquee million-dollar futurities, the (GI) Golden State Million Futurity and (GI) Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity, plus the (GI) Robert Boniface Los Alamitos Invitational Championship, (GI) Los Alamitos Super Derby, Wild West Futurity for out-of-state horses, and Los Alamitos’ signature event, the prestigious Grade 1, $600,000 Champion of Champions. Trials for the Golden State Million Futurity, Los Alamitos Super Derby, and Wild West Futurity are held in October. Trials for the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity and Champion of Champions follow in the month of November.
The change to weekend racing does not affect any major stakes races in the immediate future. In fact, the only stakes race scheduled on a Friday for the rest of July and August is the Truly A Pleasure Handicap at 870 yards. The Truly A Pleasure will be rescheduled to a weekend date. The move will also allow for robust racing cards on Sunday evenings, which traditionally feature higher handles and greater focus for the nighttime racing program on a national level.
The entire Los Alamitos racing action is available on TVG’s The Quarters. Live streaming and replays of the racing action is also featured at LosAlamitos.com. The next major stakes events at the Orange County oval are the trials to the John Deere California Juvenile Challenge on Saturday, July 24 and the trials to the (GII) Golden State Derby on Sunday, July 25.
This weekend, (July 9-11) live racing will be conducted Friday through Sunday before shifting to the Saturday and Sunday schedule next weekend. For more information, contact 714-820-2690.
