EL TIO ANGEL IS TOP QUALIFIER FOR FIRST LOS ALAMITOS CLAIMING FUTURITY

Los Alamitos introduced a new event for 2-year-olds this year with the $55,000 Los Alamitos Claiming Futurity at 350 yards. Twenty-one runners entered three trials on Sunday night with Felix Gonzalez’s El Tio Angel posting the fastest qualifying time of :17.770 after taking the opening heat. He will now lead the Los Alamitos Claiming Futurity final to be held on Sunday, August 22.

Sired by Boss Man Blue, the Alejandro Sanchez-bred colt dominated his trial, leading from start to finish in route to a 1 ¼ length victory over second fastest qualifier Carlisle Champ. Sent off at 6-1 odds, El Tio Angel was picking up his first win in only his second start. His third outing will now come in a nice event with an excellent purse.

The other trial winners were Dutch Masters III’s Woman Secrets, who scored a half-length win in the second trial of the night, and Double Bar S Ranch, Paul Jones and Thompson Racing’s My Favorite Kind, who outdueled Alessio by a nose thanks to a late rush to win the third heat.

Horses were not eligible to be claimed in the trials, but every horse in the final will be entered for a claiming price of $12,500 and can be claimed for that price on the night of the final. Here are the qualifiers to the Los Alamitos Claiming Futurity: El Tio Angel (:17.770), Carlisle Champ (:17.952), Off And On (:18.043), My Favorite Kind (:18.095), Alessio (:18.105), Woman Secrets (:18.147), Go Out (:18.215), Cmtakeyourluvtotown (:18.237), Troubles (:18.238), and Not That Wild (:18.285).
