FAMOUS MISS KITTY WINS HOLIDAY HANDICAP
Johnny Trotter’s homebred Famous Miss Kitty won the nation’s final Quarter Horse of the year after taking the $20,000 Holiday Handicap for 2-year-olds in the ninth and final race of the New Year’s Eve program on Sunday night at Los Alamitos.
Ridden by Erasmo Gasca for Los Alamitos’ leading Quarter Horse trainer Jose Flores, Famous Miss Kitty was bumped at the start of the 350-yard race before gaining speed at the midway point and eventually overtaking Muy Bien Corona and Dont Sass KVN. A half-sister to champion millionaire One Famous Eagle, Famous Miss Kitty crossed the wire a head in front of Bradbury Racing’s Dont Sass KVN while winning for the third time in 10 starts during her juvenile campaign.
The Apollitical Jess filly, who raced in the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity earlier this month, earned $11,000 for the win to take her career earnings to $92,578. She covered the distance :17.760 over a wet fast track. Famous Miss Kitty’s dam is One Famous Lady, who was stakes placed runner and winner of more than $172,000 in her 13-race career. The daughter of Chicks Beduino qualified to the Grade 1 stakes events during her time on the track, including the All American Derby in 2003 and the Rainbow Futurity in 2002. Her son, One Famous Eagle, won the 2007 Grade 1 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity and the 2008 Grade 1 Los Alamitos Super Derby.
Ridden by Ramon Sanchez for trainer Paul Jones, Dont Sass KVN earned $4,500 for her runner-up effort. Bred by McColee Land and Livestock LLC, the colt by KVN Corona wrapped up his juvenile career by finishing second or better in four of his six starts on the year. Ed Allred’s Remember Her finished third and was followed across the wire by Muy Bien Corona, Marcelo, Doctor Schecter, Bold N Brave, and Up The Interest.
