FRIVOLOUS IS STRONG LATE TO WIN DASHINGLY HANDICAP
Clanfield Act Stables’ Frivolous is now a multiple stakes winner after outdueling Gary Laramie’s Jessica Cruz by a head to win the $20,000 Dashingly Handicap on Sunday at Los Alamitos.
Frivolous scored her first victory since winning the $285,000 Governor’s Cup Futurity in 2022 thanks to a powerful finish that helped her overcome being sixth at the start of the 350-yard race. Bred by Ed Allred, the 4-year-old mare by Favorite Cartel earned $11,000 for the win. Trained by Felix Gonzalez, Frivolous was ridden to victory by Armando Viramontes. Sent off as the favorite in this race, Frivolous was picking up her fourth win in 15 starts and has now earned $209,837 in her career.
Trained by Elena Andrade and ridden by Diego Herrera, Jessica Cruz nearly became a multiple stakes winner if not for Frivolous. The FDD Dynasty mare won the James Smith Memorial Handicap last year and nearly scored another notable win after breaking on top from post nine at 18-1 odds. Jessica Cruz earned $4,500 for running second.
Gotta Corona Jess was third and was followed by She Goes Up, AJ Run For Cash, Eye Live For Candy, Forever Dynasty, Mornings With Maria, BF Lizzierageous, and Temple Court. Viramontes picked up the mount on Frivolous in place of Henry Reynoso Lopez, who was unable to ride after hitting the ground when his mount, Chasing Fame, clipped heels and fell during the running of the third race. Fortunately, both Reynoso Lopez and Chasing Fame walked away from the incident under their own power.
