FAVORITE CARTEL COLT IS $165,000 DAY 1 HIGH SELLER OF LOS ALAMITOS EQUINE SALE

Dunn Ranch purchased a Favorite Cartel colt out of the Walk Thru Fire broodmare Enjoy The Walk for $165,000 to top the opening session of the Los Alamitos Equine Sale here on Saturday afternoon.

Consigned by Burns Ranch, Hip 95 Death Valley (above) is a full brother to multiple Grade 1 winner and $319,703 earner Chocolatito, who won the Grade 1 Vessels Maturity and the Grade 1 Robert Boniface Los Alamitos Invitational Championship. Death Valley was one of three yearlings that sold for over $100,000 during the first of two days of the Equine Sale.

Alex Castaneda, Agent, purchased Hip 43 Royalist (above), a Corona Cartel colt out of the stakes winning mare Zigfield Follies, for the session’s second highest selling price of $120,000. Consigned by Vista Equine Colorado LLC, Royalist is a half-brother to the winning juvenile VGK Zigfield Follies, who will race in Saturday’s Golden State Million Futurity trials. Royalist’s female family includes Dashin Follies, the dam of the great stallion PYC Paint Your Wagon.  Royalist catalog page is filled with black type that also includes Mi Angela and Imperador Eagle MRL.

Tungsten Racing purchased the Favorite Cartel colt Scary Flight for $102,000 to make him the third highest seller on Saturday from the Ed Allred consignment. Scary Flight is out of the young broodmare Fly The Heights, a Governor’s Cup Futurity finalist from the family of stakes winners Fixin To Fly, Bridlewood, Girl Secrets, Citation Five, etc.

Saturday’s session had 57 yearlings selling for $1,767,400 for an average of $31,007. That figure is very close to last year’s strong opening session’s yearling average of $32,194 for a slight decrease of 3.7%. Day one had a total of 65 horses selling for $1,924,900 for an average of $29,614 or only 1.7% off last year’s total average for day one. Sunday’s session is loaded with tremendous standouts that could lead to a big second session. The catalog for day two includes yearlings by Favorite Cartel out of Attack The Cartel, Nymph and Remember Me Rose.

The second session will start at 12 P.m. (PDT) on Sunday and will feature Hips 105 through 208. Live streaming video of the sale and the online catalog can be viewed at losalamitosequinesale.com.
