FIRE OF THE MOUNTAIN KEEPS ON WINNING, SCORES IN SCHVANEVELDT
Larry and Joyce Mower’s Fire Of The Mountain continued his winning ways with a hard-fought ½ length victory over M E Ettago Relent in the $35,000 Blane Schvaneveldt Handicap on Sunday at Los Alamitos.
The homebred gelding by Jr Dynasty Mountain picked up eighth victory in 10 career starts with his score at Los Alamitos being his fourth in a stakes final. Making his first start at the California track, Fire Of The Mountain covered the 400-yard distance in :20.381. He earned $19,250 for the win to take his career earnings to $76,442. He’s won four of his five starts this year. Armando Cervantes piloted the Utah-bred winning machine for trainer Monty Arrossa.
“He’s a good boy,” said Joyce Mower of Syracuse, Utah. “I raised him from a baby. I’m the first person to ever touch him, 10 minutes to midnight on my sister’s birthday on April 8, 2020. It’s just incredible. We’re proud of him. We’ll talk to Monty to see what’s next.”
Owned by Kim Newman and Dave Merritt, M E Ettago Relent earned $7,875 for running second, while David Newbold’s Jess Yaya picked up $4,375 for running third. Monty Arrosa saddled the second and third place finishers. You Cant Drive 95 and Higher Heat completed the field.
