PROJECT LEADER KEEPS WINNING AT 1,000 YARDS

Jesus Uranga’s Project Leader, the winningest horse at 1,000-yards ever at Los Alamitos, picked up his 19th career victory at this distance after taking the lead shortly after the start and he remained strong from there to extend his track record last Sunday.

With Ricardo Ramirez up for trainer Jesus Uranga, Project Leader picked up his third win in a row at 1,000 yards. After the race, Uranga looked back and said, “One more to go!” referencing to his trainee going for 20 wins at 1,000 yards.

Project Leader picked up his first win at this distance on April 26, 2020, before adding another one in 2020. From then, he won one more in 2021, four in 2022, two in 2023, and then seven during his outstanding 2024 campaign. He’s won the last two Summer Finals at 1,000 years.

This victory also takes Project Leader into 10th place in the point standings for the Winter Final with 8,600 points.
