GATE WORK FOR SUNDAY, OCTOBER 4

RACE 7 – MAIDEN - 2-YEAR-OLDS - 350 YARDS

#7 Skillee – September 23 :12.3 at 220 yards (SET #6)

Inside Horse: Utah bred filly by Apollitical Jess makes her first start since running fifth in an All American Futurity trial. She worked from the inside post in :12.3 when going evenly with Revenant Jess, who was entered in Saturday’s Golden State trials. She looked relaxed and focused while in the gate when using a flipping halter for this drill. She broke very fast before breaking inwards, quickly leveling out. She traveled in easy-going fashion from there, first enjoying a slight lead before being asked once right-handed as Revenant Jess moved up alongside her.  Skillee finished okay but it was her rival who finished stronger to the wire before showing competitiveness in the gallop out.

RACE 8 – MAIDEN - 2-YEAR-OLDS - 220 YARDS

#3 Rumba – August 26 :12.7 at 220 yards (SET #1)

Solo Work: Favorite Cartel filly is out of the multiple graded futurity winner Walk Thru Crystal. She worked solo to prepare for this debut when going in :12.7 on August 26. She was slow into her stride, breaking head high and continuing that way past the gap. She looked green at time during that part of the work, refocusing under urging by her rider. She picked up the pace from that point on and her rider eventually sat back and let her finish on her own, as she continued solidly in her gallop out.

#4 Mizuki Hunting – September 19 :12.6 at 220 yards (SET #3)

Inside Horse: Homebred filly by Hunting Eagle is out of the solid runner and broodmare Ventura Jess Jqm. She worked from the inside post in :12.6 to prepare for this debut when finishing ahead of the two-time starter La Choco Crispis, who had been entered to run in this race before being on Friday morning. Mizuki Hunting hesitated a tad at the start before veering inwards. She angled back out after the gap and that propelled her ahead of La Choco Crispis, and she carried that lead to the wire while not being asked for much in the final 50 yards. Easy gallop out after the wire as she was under a hold around the turn.
