PROSPECT RUNWAY – MAY 6 LOS ALAMITOS

With trials to the Grade 1 Ed Burke Million Futurity right around the corner on Sunday, May 28, the top juveniles on the grounds have already been preparing for the big night by making their required start prior to the trials.

The Saturday night action featured five events for juveniles with some impressive runners breaking through with good looking maiden victories. Sunday's action featured two juvenile events. Let’s take a brief look at the winners on Saturday and Sunday night and remember, many of these will be back for the Ed Burke Million Trials.

SATURDAY, MAY 6

Next Level Up – Another KVN Corona winner, Next Level Up was the big 2-5 favorite going into this race after an impressive gate work in which he traveled smoothly while never being asked for his best. He didn’t get the best of breaks in his debut but flew in the final 100 yards to out-nose a game Jess Dynasty Time in :15.724. His dam is from the family of stakes winners Bridlewood, Girl Secret, and the multiple graded stakes placed runner Gulfstream Five. Purchased at Ruidoso for $55,000, Next Level Up is owned by J. Francisco Diaz and trained by his son, Lindolfo.

Market Analyst (photo) – Half-sister to 2022 multiple futurity finalist Mornings With Maria, this filly looked impressive in her debut, breaking sharply and then rocketing to the front and pulling away from the rest to win by 1 ½ lengths. Her time was also the fastest of the night at 300 yards of :15.668. Steve Burns owns the Mike Casselman-trainee.

Ready For It – A slight favorite in this race, Juniors Quarter Horses’ Ready For It bumped at the start but still posted a gate to wire victory, crossing the finish line a head in front of 11-1 longshot Teller Arizona Mrl. Ready For It is out of the wonderful producer Up For It, the dam of graded stakes winners Up And Atem and She Goes Up. His sire is Favorite Cartel, who has been represented by seven juvenile winners here over the past three racing nights. Juniors Quarter Horses bought the Ed Allred-bred Ready For It for $162,000 at the Los Alamitos Equine Sale.

Talk Bout Somethin – KVN Corona filly ran second in her debut back on April 15. Her racing experience played to her advantage, as she shook off a troubled start and then went from last to first as the 4-5 favorite here for Bradbury Racing and trainer Paul Jones. Her dam is the West Texas Futurity finalist Ms Talks A lot and her great granddam is the Rocky Mountain Derby winner Forever Bradgelina.

Luxury Brand – Post number one has seen a lot of juvenile winners already this season. Talk Bout Somethin won from post one and so did Favorite City, who Luxury Brand worked with back on April 18. Sure enough, Luxury Brand won from along the rail here at 220 yards, leaving nicely and then holding off a big late run from Jess Fiesty. The Apollitical Jess colt is out of the 2006 Governor’s Cup Futurity winner Checknbac. Dunn Ranch purchased the Rancho El Cabresto-bred Luxury Brand for $210,000 at last year’s Ruidoso Yearling Sale.

SUNDAY, MAY 7

Apolitical Reason – Good Reason SA gelding showed a quick turn of foot before cruising to the finish with a half-length win and in a 300-yard time of :16.012. While his final time is not an impressive one, the Silver Racing Farm-bred sprinter did impress with the ease that he was able to take the lead and command of this event that featured several eye-catching morning workers. Owned by Larry Stewart, Apolitical Reason was purchase by $47,000 at the Los Alamitos Equine Sale. His dam is the Golden State Juvenile Stakes winner Apollitical Legacy.

Bella Hunting – Filly by Hunting Eagle led from start to finish in route to a solid ¾ length victory in a time of :15.954. She also showed nice ability during her morning workouts, but she’s not eligible to the Ed Burke Million trials. Her owner and breeder Sergio Hurtado owns Hunting Eagle and her dam, Ventura Jess JQM, who qualified to the 2019 Ed Burke Million final. Bella Hunting is her first starter.
