FUTURITY WINNERS FIVE BAR SUPREME AND YOU CANT DRIVE 95 HEAD TRIALS TO WILD WEST FUTURITY AT LOS ALAMITOS
Jorge Carmona’s Five Bar Supreme, winner of the Firecracker Futurity at Grants Pass in Oregon, and J Lazy Six Racing’s You Cant Drive 95, winner of the Desert Classic Futurity, are among the 17 juveniles that will race in the trials to the $86,350 Wild West Futurity on Sunday at Los Alamitos.
The Wild West trials will have eight horses in race number seven and nine in race number eight. The horses with the 10 fastest times will then advance to the Wild West final to be held here on Sunday, October 22. Horses in these trials made at least two starts in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and Canada.
You Cant Drive 95, a $25,000 purchase at the Heritage Place Sale last year, enters the trials undefeated after winning both of her starts at Turf Paradise. Her win in the $79,000 Desert Classic was a decisive one at 300 yards, as she took the lead shortly after the start and never look back while posting a ¾ length win. Previously trained by Leonel Gonzalez, she’ll be saddled at Los Alamitos by Heath Taylor. Armando Viramontes will ride the Oklahoma-bred filly by You Drive I Fly from the outside post eight.
The opening trial will also feature Michael Clark’s Pappas Missile, who ran third in the $56,000 Utah Bred Futurity at Wyoming Downs and fourth in the $71,000 Hadley/Giles Futurity at Weber Downs in Ogden, Utah. Pappasito filly has won all three of her other starts and is now under the watch of trainer Monty Arrossa for her Los Alamitos debut.
Arrossa will also saddle Moonshine Racing’s Sass Me Cowboy in this race. This gelding is the son of Flying Cowboy 123, the nation’s leading freshman stallion and the third leading sire in money earned in the country with over $3.4 million. Only super sires Apollitical Jess and Favorite Cartel have higher earnings by their sons and daughter this year than Flying Cowboy 123.
The second trial is led by the Lindolfo Diaz-trained Five Bar Supreme, who posted a ½ length win in the $63,000 Firecracker at Grants Pass on 4th of July. That race was at 350 yards, and he also dominated his Firecracker trial, cruising to a 1 ¼ length win in that outing. Five Bar Supreme has also enjoyed local success, as he broke his maiden at Los Alamitos in his racing debut on May 13 and three weeks ago he ran second to fastest qualifier Cowboy Upp in their trial to the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity. Jesus Rios Ayala will ride the gelding by Five Bar Cartel from post number nine.
Others in this trial include Michael McKell’s Coronas With One S, who was third in the $53,000 Beehive Futurity at Weber Downs, and Pedro Mena’s California Best Card, the third place finisher in the $83,000 Energy Downs 307 Open Futurity in Gillette, Wyoming.
