SCOOPS DYNASTY CONTINUES TERRIFIC 2022 CAMPAIGN, TOPS GOLDEN STATE DERBY TRIALS
Edward and Von Zae McNelis’ Scoops Dynasty delivered another impressive performance, this time in the trials to the Grade 2, $210,000 Golden State Derby on Sunday night at Los Alamitos.
Ridden by Armando Cervantes for trainer Monty Arrossa, Scoops Dynasty (left) improved his record to four wins in as many starts in 2022, as he scored a clear victory in the first of two trials to the Golden State Derby. A total of 16 sophomores competed in the 400-yard trials with the 10 horses with the fastest times advancing to the rich final to be held on Sunday, August 14.
Bred by his owners, the son of FDD Dynasty has been one of the top 3-year-olds this season at Los Alamitos. His unbeaten record for the year includes wins in the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Winter Derby and also in the Adequan California Derby Challenge, a race that qualifying him to the national final in the Adequan Derby series. This year’s final will be held at The Horseshoe in Indiana in the fall.
Scoops Dynasty won the opening trial easily, cruising to a 1 ¾ length victory in the fastest qualifying time of :19.892. For his career, the Idaho-bred has won five of nine career starts. Barry Woodhouse’s Insider Information finished second.
It was a great derby trial night for the stallion FDD Dynasty, as he sired both trial winners. In addition to the impressive Scoops Dynasty, FDD Dynasty is also the sire of Dasha Dynasty, who won the second heat by 1 ½ lengths. Owned by S-Quarter K LLC, Robyn Gordon and Juan H. Moya, Dasha Dynasty won his heat in impressive fashion, as the Washington-bred colt posted the second fastest qualifying time of :19.896, just slightly behind the top qualifier Scoops Dynasty. Dasha Dynasty completed the final 220 yards in :09.58, which was also a faster time than Scoops Dynasty’s :09.60 come home clocking. Jesus Rios Ayala piloted Dasha Dynasty from the outside post seven for trainer Jose Flores.
Bred by S-Quarter K LLC, Dasha Dynasty was enjoying his second win in nine career outings. A Grade 1 futurity finalist in 2021, Dasha Dynasty’s dam is the great Dasha Freda, who is the dam of the 2015 AQHA World Champion Heza Dasha Fire, the Grade 1 winning champion and millionaire Ima Fearless Hero and many others. Dasha Good Reason, who also qualified to the Golden State Derby from this trial is also out of the great Dasha Freda. Jesus Avila and Jesus Cuevas’ Set For It, winner of the Tolltac Handicap last year, finished second in this trial in the third fastest qualifying of :20.135 for trainer Adan Farias.
